Boys & Girls Club hosts Wildcat Summer Classic basketball tournament Aug. 7-9

The Boys & Girls Club Wildcats will host the Seventh Annual Wildcat National Summer Classic basketball tournament Aug. 7-9.
More teams will compete than in any other previous year, with more than 300 teams coming from across the U.S. and Canada.
Each team is guaranteed to play in seven games, and awards will be given for MVP, Offensive Player, Defensive Player, Sportsmanship, Refs Award, Executive Director’s Award, Coaches Award and All-Tournament Award.
To add to the tournament experience, a slew of events have been scheduled Thursday, Aug. 6, to kick off the tournament, including a Golf Play Day at Timber Pointe Golf Course in Poplar Grove that features a chance to win a new Saturn car, as well as all-star games, coaches’ and dads’ games, and various shooting and basketball skills competitions held at Harlem High School.
A progressive shooting contest will be open to the public, with a chance to win $25,000 and a new Saturn car.
More than 900 games on 36 different courts will be played over the course of the weekend. The Boys & Girls Club hosts several basketball tournaments throughout the year, including the Fall Classic and the Spring Classic. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the tournament, bringing nearly $400,000 to the Rockford Region.

Friday, Aug. 7: Team Pool Play begins at 1 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 8: Team Pool Play begins at 9 a.m.
Sunday, Aug. 9: Tournament Champions begins at 9 a.m.
