Local musicians unite to raise funds for downtown arts community

Local musicians Emily Hurd (left) and Kelly Steward (above) performed at “A Corner for Artspace” Saturday, Aug. 1, at Coronado Corner Gift Shop. Proceeds from the event, presented by The Element, will help complete the funding for a market study of the Rockford Region for the development of a mixed-use, live-work building for artists in downtown Rockford. The Element is a network of local arts advocates. Other performers at the Aug. 1 event included Scattered Trees and Starlite Radio. Hurd will headline the 5 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 16, “Hot Music for a Cool City” concert at Cliffbreakers. The concert benefits the Green Communities Coalition (GCC).
