Pasture Walk at Lockwood Park set for Aug. 19

If you would like to learn about managing your pastures for horses or other livestock, the upcoming Pasture Walk may be for you. Wednesday, Aug. 19, University of Illinois Extension-Winnebago County and the Rockford Park District are offering Establishing Pastures from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lockwood Park Trailside Equestrian Centre. Registration fee is $15 for adults and $5 for those younger than 18.
Ellen Phillips, U of I Extension Crop Systems educator, will cover topics dealing with establishing pastures, pasture forage plant and weed identification and weed control. The workshop will cover general management principles and help participants determine if their own pastures are developed to their full potential. This program is appropriate no matter the size of the pasture and will provide management principles that will create productive pastures to maximize animals’ health.
