Police in search of suspect in early-morning shooting death

Wednesday, Aug. 5, at approximately 3:25 p.m., patrol officers and detectives from the Rockford Police Department responded to the area of Oakwood Avenue and Mulberry Street in reference to a possible shooting investigation.

Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim lying outside a residence in the 100 block of Oakley Avenue suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Christopher M. Fryer of Rockford. Fryer was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department are conducting a follow-up investigation into the shooting. It has since been determined that the shooting actually took place outside a residence in the 1200 block of Mulberry Street.

Based on information available, the suspect is described as follows: black male, approximately 15 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 200 to 250 pounds, large build, wearing blue shirt and blue hat and armed with a handgun.
