Downtown supporters honored with Heart of Rockford awards

The Lombardi Club played host to the River District’s 23rd annual Heart of Rockford Awards ceremony Thursday night, Aug. 6.

Individuals and organizations that have an impact on the heart of the city were awarded for their efforts in the past year. Following are the winners by category:

Commitment by a business and commitment by an individual: Adams Letter Services/Magnum Creative and Scott Saporiti, 222 N. Rockton Ave.

Residential renovation/new construction: Bliss Building, third-floor loft, 317 Mulberry St.

Historic preservation: Emerson House (Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center), 420 N. Main St.

Commitment by an individual: Doc Slafkosky and Jerry Kortman of J.R. Kortman Center for Design

New business and commercial renovation/new construction: GrahamSpencer, 333 Locust St.

Historic preservation, residential renovation/new construction: Lantow Lofts, 505 Seventh St.

Festival/special event: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Light the Night” campaign

Youth service: Boy Scout Brian Peterson for the restoration of historic seats at Veterans Memorial Hall, 211 N. Main St.

New business: Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital, 125 S. Madison St.

Jon W. Lundin Historic Preservation grants ($1,000): Midway Village Museum and the Rockford Public Library
