Rockford Police to switch from analogue to digital radio system

In the coming days, the Rockford Police Department will switch from their current VHF analogue radios to StarCom21 700-800 MHz dual trunked digital system.
The purchase of this system was made possible by a Public Safety Interoperable Communications (PSIG) Grant awarded to Prairie Shield Regional Alliance, which is a consortium of 21 public safety agencies throughout Boone, DeKalb, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago counties.
Rockford Police is one of the initial partners that received funding from this grant.
This system will enhance emergency communication capabilities and improve officer safety. The StarCom21 network will provide the Rockford Police Department with a solution to interoperable radio communications among local, state and federal governments with more than 98 percent statewide coverage.
