Whether you were “green” before the color was fashionable or whether you’re just ready to find the “shade” that works best for you, here’s information about doing just “one green thing.”

Green your back-to-school supplies (Resource: www.squidoo.com/greenschool [1])
• Paper: Avoid notebooks with plastic covers and look for paper made with high levels of post-consumer waste.
• Crayons: Look for nontoxic ones made from soybean oil or bees’ wax, rather than paraffin (a petroleum-based product).
• Pencils: Choose ones made from sustainably-harvested wood or recycled materials and have minimal packaging.
• Rulers: Pick a ruler made from post-consumer recycled plastic or sturdy metal that can last a lifetime.
• Scissors: Post-consumer plastic handles are the best way to go—even for lefties.
• Glue: If possible, choose a refillable glue bottle rather than a glue stick that often gets dried out and tossed into the landfill.
• Litter-free lunches: Get the kids a sleek lunch carrier and Thermos. Avoid using paper bags or disposable juice drinks when possible.
