Nashville, Tenn.-based artist and musician Anthony Billups will present his richly-textured charcoal drawings in an exhibition titled “Back Home.

The Kortman Gallery art show opens Friday, Sept. 11, with a special
sneak preview

from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, during the On the Waterfront festival.

Billups, who graduated from Hononegah High School in Rockton, is also an accomplished musician active in Nashville’s country music scene. He will present a live musical performance during his art

Saturday, Sept. 5. In his fact sheet, Billups said:
One of my claims to fame is that I played ball with a Rockford Peaches’ grandson. Another is the first time I saw Danica drive by me at 110 mph on I-90. Last one is that I am a proud member of Hononegah’s first Regional Championship baseball team.

Anthony’s relaxed country style is reflected in his work,

says Kortman gallerist Doc Slafkosky.
He draws images of places in his life, including scenes of the Rockford area, where he spent a good part of his teenage years. His art and his music is a perfect fit for On the Waterfront, providing an additional arts/culture venue suitable for all ages at the festival.
