Rockford celebrates solar panel manufacturing facility groundbreaking

Wanxiang America Corporation Photovoltaic Solar Panel Manufacturing Facility held an official groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Rockford Global Tradepark, 5985 Logistics Parkway, corner of Blackhawk Road and Logistics Parkway.
In attendance were Mayor Larry Morrissey; Pin Ni, president of Wanxiang America; State Sen. Dave Syverson; State Rep. Chuck Jefferson; Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen; Janyce Fadden of the RAECD; Mike Dunn of GRAA; representatives from the Chinese Consulate; Jeff Polsean from the ILDCEO; and Rockford aldermen.
The groundbreaking ceremony signifies the beginning of a long-term partnership among Wanxiang America Group, the City of Rockford, Winnebago County, the Greater Rockford Airport Authority and the State of Illinois.
Wanxiang Group will bring innovative alternative energy technology and new jobs to northern Illinois. The project will initially employ up to 60 full-time workers. As demand grows, the company could expand to 160,000 square feet and 240 workers. In addition to building a manufacturing facility, Wanxiang America also has plans to construct a solar farm, which could be up to 200 acres. Rockford is a growing hub for alternative energy innovation in the Midwest.
