Beloit Autorama Sept. 20

From press release

It’s time again for Beloit Autorama, always presented on the third Sunday in September. The Beloit Evening Lions Club is sponsoring the 33rd Annual Beloit Autorama from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 at the beautiful Town of Beloit Preservation Park on the banks of Rock River, four miles north of Beloit on Highway 51.

The Beloit Autorama has grown from its first show in 1977 with 130 cars to become one of the largest automotive one-day events in the Midwest. It has been featured on the speed channel show, My Classic Car, and had been featured in various car magazines. More than 1,000 cars in the classes of Street Rod, Custom, Corvette, Antique, Classic, Truck, 55-64 Chevy, Modified High Performance, Stock High Performance and Special Interest are expected at this year’s show.

The cars in each class are parked as a group together so people attending the show can see their favorite vintage vehicles in the same area. The parts swap, flea market, and arts & crafts area feature more than 200 vendor spaces where that special car part or collectible item can be found. Also, the car corral area features more than 120 classic and performance cars for sale. The exciting

will provide music during the show.

Special hand-crafted clock trophies are a highlight of the show and are presented to all car classes. These works of art are not seen at any other shows and are prized possessions of the show car people who win them. A value of many thousands of dollars would have to be put on the trophies if they were to be purchased.

Concession stands in the park will have bratwurst, hamburgers and hot dogs cooked over an open fire, along with cold beer and soft drinks. There are plenty of grassy areas if anyone wishes to have a picnic lunch and watch the vehicles enter the show car area.

The Beloit Autorama is a fund-raising project for the Beloit Evening Lions Club. The Coachmen Street Rodders and Blue Ribbon Classic Chevy Club completely donate their time and efforts in helping to present the show. More than $633,000 has been raised from the past 32 Autoramas. The Lions Club has donated these proceeds to the Lions Club International Foundation, The Wisconsin Lions Club Foundation, which supports The Wisconsin Lions Camp for use by the visually handicapped, Merrill Community Center, Beloit Boys & Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Meals on Wheels, Caritas, Easter Seals Camp, Hospice and other community projects.

It’s a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon and have the satisfaction you helped a worthwhile charity. Adult spectator admission is $6, 8- to 15-year-olds $2, 7 and younger are free. For more information, call (608) 326-5056 days, or (608) 879-9422 evenings.
