OSF St. Anthony Women’s Program highlights ‘Women and Pain’
From press release
Conquering Pain Together: Woman and Pain
is the title of the free OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Women’s Program to be held Thursday, Sept. 24, in the atrium of the Medical Center.
The program begins at 5 p.m. with heel scans for osteoporosis, blood pressure screening and tables staffed by healthcare professionals offering information on chronic pain, headache pain, acupuncture, myofascial release, pelvic pain, pain treatment options and other topics.
The program is being presented by members of the Northern Illinois Pain Resource Nurse Consortium in observance of September as Pain Awareness Month.
Karen Sikorski, RN, MS, APN, clinical nurse specialist in pain management at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, and Leslie Aauland, RN-BC, Pain Resource nurse who coordinates the Pain Blog for the Rockford Register Star, will discuss how the types of pain, pain recognition and treatments are different for women than for men. Women tend to experience more recurrent, severe and long-lasting pain than men.
The presentation is followed by an

question-and-answer session. The panel of experts includes the two pain resource nurse speakers and Dr. Howard Weiss, medical director for OSF Pain Services, and independent physician Dr. Nicole Macaulay, obstetrician and gynecologist.
Light refreshments will be served. The program is free, but reservations are required by calling the OSF Center for Cancer Care at (815) 227-2624.
