| Midwest News UW-Madison Expands Sustainability Focus, Learner Says Climate Bill Has Many Winners The University of Wisconsin-Madison hosted a Climate Change and Green Jobs conference as it moved forward with plans to expand its graduate program in sustainability, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The school sees growth in sustainable jobs both in business and environmental fields; the program aims to give students an edge as those jobs become available. ELPC Executive Director Howard Learner spoke at the conference, saying that many sectors will grow and that federal climate legislation will create job growth and economic progress. Read more [1] |

| National News U.S. CO2 Pollution Fell Dramatically Due to Reduced Consumption and Weak Economy The United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a report showing that U.S. pollution from fossil fuels fell by 6% in 2009, bringing CO2pollution to 8.5% below 2005 levels and moving us closer to the Waxman-Markey bill’s 2020 target. The drop is twice what the EIA had projected five months ago. As a result of these findings, here are some suggested steps to strengthen the energy and climate bill that is being considered in the US Senate. Read more [2] |

| Global News China Will Announce New Carbon Trading Plan The Sunday Times in London has released news that China is planning to unveil a carbon-trading and cap plan this week in New York at the UN Conference on Climate Change. China is the world’s largest carbon polluter, responsible for 20% of greenhouse gas emissions, and has been criticized for not doing enough to fight global warming. China’s entry into the carbon trading markets would greatly increase demand for new environmental projects. Read more [3] |
