Park District’s Great Golf Ball Drop Oct. 7
By Doug Halberstadt
If you happen to be driving by Ingersoll Golf Course this evening (Wednesday, Oct. 7), don’t be alarmed if you see it raining golf balls. The Rockford Park District Foundation is holding their third annual Great Golf Ball Drop at 6:13 p.m. today.
A large group of numbered golf balls will be dropped from a crane hovering high above one of the greens of a pre-selected hole on the Learning Links at Ingersoll. The first golf ball in the hole, or the one closest to the hole, wins the grand prize of $2,500. There will be closest-to-the-pin prizes, as well as a prize for the ball that ends up the farthest away from the pin.
Some of the additional prizes include: four tickets to Sea World in Orlando, Fla., a one-year supply of Culver’s frozen custard, a party for 10 at Fraiche Café & Co., an assortment of wines, a Black Hills Gold necklace, a round of golf for four at Erin Hills Golf Course, a Rockford Park District 2010 season golf pass, a Magic Waters 2010 season pass and a $50 gift certificate from GQ Sports.
Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. You can still purchase your ticket for a chance to get in on all the fun by calling Paul Arco, annual fund director for the Park District. His number is (815) 969-4077. The event is free for spectators, and ample parking is available at the Ingersoll Golf Course.
The Great Golf Ball Drop is a special event to benefit the Rockford Park District Foundation and Rockford Park District youth golf programs.
