State legislators to speak at League of Women Voters Town Hall meeting Oct. 8
From press release
The League of Women Voters—Illinois and its member leagues of greater Rockford, Freeport, and Rochelle will sponsor a Town Hall meeting with local state legislators at 7 p.m., Oct. 8, in the Flinn Middle School Auditorium, 2525 Ohio Parkway, Rockford.
For democracy to work and be effective, constituents should understand how public policy is advanced and where their representatives stand on the critical issues of the day.
During the spring 2009 session of the Illinois General Assembly, legislators were asked to consider and weigh in on a number of critical issues of public policy, including the budget and campaign finance reform. The public is invited to attend to hear legislators discuss the immediate past and upcoming legislative sessions and to submit questions they may have.
In addition to hearing legislators’ perspectives about the spring and upcoming legislative sessions, Mary Schaafsma, the LWVIL coordinator of the 2010 Illinois True Census Count Project, will speak on the upcoming census and its implications for Illinois, including the impact it will have on federal funding, Congressional representation, and statewide legislative redistricting. A question-and-answer session will follow.
