Hollis Sigler exhibit opens today at Rockford Art Museum

Opening with a free gallery walk at 11 a.m., today, Friday, Oct. 10, Rockford Art Museum (RAM) celebrates the deeply personal imagery of Chicago artist and feminist Hollis Sigler (1948-2001). The gallery walk will be led by artist Riva Lehrer, a frequent guest on National Public Radio.
Curated by Patty Rhea and organized by RAM in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, Hollis Sigler: Expect the Unexpected marks the first retrospective of the final two decades of work by this acclaimed artist.
The exhibition will be on display Oct. 9 through Jan. 10, 2010, at RAM, and then travel to the Chicago Cultural Center after its debut at RAM.
Opening in October to coincide with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this exhibition includes selections from Sigler’s autobiographical Breast Cancer Journal, which chronicled her struggle with the disease that eventually took her life.
