Celebrate Tejano music Oct. 18
From press release
The Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will culminate with “An Evening of Tejano Music” from 3 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Texas Lounge, 1007 S. Main St., Rockford.
Tejano music or Tex-Mex (Texan-Mexican) music is the name given to various forms of folk and popular music originating among the Hispanic populations of central and southern Texas.
In recent years, artists such as the “Queen of Tejano” Selena Quintanilla and others have transformed Tejano music from primarily a local ethnic form of music to a genre with wide appeal in North America, Latin America, Europe and beyond.
The free celebration will include live music, Tejano DJs and El Conjunto Cardenas con Noemi. All Tejano musicians are invited on stage, and the public is invited to join this first-of-its-kind event.
