Womanspace has several programs scheduled to honor victims and survivors of breast cancer. Keeping Abreast is a special art exhibit in Gallery 3 in the lower level of New Dimensions Studio.
Gloriann Dawson offers the personal experience and resources she discovered while caring for her mother, who battled breast cancer for many years, in Suddenly I’m a Caregiver—Now What? Oct. 24.
Dr. Tracey Kinigakis is a local integrative M.D. who has studied with the renowned Dr. Andrew Weil. Oct. 31, Kinigakis shares an informative program about Breast Health. Nov. 14, she presents Menopause—Not the Musical!
Survivors and loved ones can treat themselves to an afternoon retreat Nov. 1 at Your Wilderness Journey with Dorothy Bock.
Just like thousands of women and men, many children have discovered Womanspace is a place to make friends and discover hidden talents. If you know a 9- to 13-year-old girl, now she can become a Junior Member. These lucky girls get lots of fun stuff, a discount on classes, and some programs for free! Next up is Decorate Your Journal with Barbara Santucci in November, plus they can read Blue Jasmine for Bookgirl Nov. 19. Meanwhile, grown-up readers discuss The Story of Edgar Sawtelle at Bookwoman Nov. 11, and Santucci’s Collage for Fun class starts Nov. 3.
In addition to the Gallery 3 exhibit, Poet’s Palette features new works by Womanspace co-founder Dorothy Bock in the brand-new Gallery 1 inside our main brick building. Both exhibits are on display during business hours through Nov. 11, and a percentage of your purchase benefits Womanspace and its programs.
Dorothy presents an Art Lecture on Van Gogh in Arles Oct. 22, and begins a sculpture class that same evening. Drawing Wednesday nights with Dorothy starts Nov. 4; Karen Gines’ morning Acrylic Painting class starts up Oct. 27; and Sue Mount offers a special Saturday Watercolor class Nov. 7.
Come to our Lunch and Learn Oct. 21 for the newly-approved Continuous Chest Compression CPR with Lt. Robert Vertiz. Nov. 4, Pardis Haghdoost plays her daf drum and shares the wisdom of Rumi and Tolerance. Pardis also offers lessons, so contact us for information about purchasing a Persian daf. Our Supper & Film series continues Oct. 26 with Angelina Jolie in director Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, an unforgivably true story from 1928.
You don’t have to be a member to participate at Womanspace, and most programs are open to men as well as women. We do, however, have occasional offerings just for women. Mining Wild Women Stories meets monthly to explore Clarissa Pinkola Estes’ Women Who Run With the Wolves. That Food Thing is a new chakra support group meeting Oct. 17 for those with food and eating issues. Nov. 7, Maureen Elick, MS, LCPC, helps us explore The Women Within—Connecting to our Wise, Wild & Creative Selves. To join our free SpacePacers women-only walking group, please contact us for the list of scheduled walks in our area.
