After a sixth-place finish in the NIC-10 boys’ golf tournament, the Auburn Knights were faced with a potentially disappointing season.

The Knights bounced back with a first-place finish in the Harlem Regional to advance to sectional play.

Auburn finished with a team score of 320, topping Guilford by one point and Boylan by two points.

Auburn was led by Zach Bannon, who shot a 3-over 75 to finish second behind individual winner, Harlem’s Patipan Pipatpinyopong.

Boylan’s Corey Konieczki, who won his second conference title the previous week, finished seventh with a score of 80. That is good enough to advance to sectional play.

The Titans won the girls’ golf regional with a final score of 360 in tough conditions. Belvidere North was second with 371 and Hononegah third at 384.

NIC-10 champion Kelsey Nelson, from Belvidere North, was among the players who advanced to sectional play.

In girls’ tennis, Auburn repeated as champions in the NIC-10, edging the Titans 46-45 for the team title.

Auburn took three individual or doubles titles and finished second in two other divisions to take the team crown.

Abbey Torrence of Auburn topped Belvidere North’s Julia Chai 6-3, 6-4 to secure the team title. Auburn’s Alexa DeVita and Kelly Lorentson kept their undefeated streak in conference play going, winning No. 2 doubles, and Rachel Fox and Mahalia Kahsay won the No. 3 doubles title.

Boylan’s Brianna Markgraf won the No. 1 singles, beating Auburn’s Sarah Torrence in straight sets. Auburn also took second in No. 1 doubles, with Jessica Song and Jessie Walter falling to Guilford’s Elizabeth McGrail and Nicole Beck in straight sets.
