Halberstadt: NFL week 7 picks: Bears, Packers win, Vikings lose

Regardless of the outcome of Monday night’s game, I had my worst week yet of the 2009 NFL season last week. I will either be 8-6 if the Broncos win, or 7-7 if the Chargers prevail. Overall, certainly not a good week for me, and not a good week for several of the so-called favorites in the league. They really let me down. Let’s forget about that and move on, shall we? (It’s all I can do.)

This week, the visiting teams dominate my picks. Out of the 13 games on the schedule, I chose the visitors in nine of those games. Beginning with Chicago at Cincinnati, it’s as close to a must-win situation as the Bears have had so far this season. I went with the Bears to win in Ohio. I also took Green Bay to win in their visit to the Buckeye State. They should destroy the Cleveland Browns.

The Chargers travel to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Chiefs. I like San Diego on the road.

The Colts make the short trip from Indianapolis over to St. Louis to pick up their next victory. San Francisco is coming off their bye week and is in Houston. I’m going with the 49ers to pick up a win in the Lone Star State.

The time has come for Minnesota’s luck to run out. If not for a last-second heroic catch and a botched Baltimore Ravens field goal, the Vikings would be 4-2 instead of 6-0. This week, they are in Pittsburgh. I look for the Steelers to end the Vikings’ winning streak at six. In a classic case of the haves versus the have-nots, New England should win on the road in Tampa Bay.

Carolina is at home against Buffalo. I like the Panthers on their home turf. The New York Jets have to travel to the West Coast to face Oakland. I look for the Jets to get back into the win column and the Raiders to get back into the loss column.

New Orleans is undefeated and should remain that way when they beat the Dolphins in Miami. Dallas is at home against the Falcons. I’m going with the Cowboys. In the Sunday night game, it’s Eli Manning and his Giants at home against Kurt Warner and the visiting Cardinals. I like Manning in New York.

The Monday night game features the Philadelphia Eagles visiting the Washington Redskins. I think Washington might be one of the worst teams in the league this year. I look for the Eagles to come back strong following their embarrassing loss to Oakland last week. I’m picking the Eagles by at least two touchdowns in the nationally-televised game.

I hope my road warriors can come through for me this week. If not, I’m in big trouble.
