Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate to speak in Rockford Oct. 25

From press release

LeAlan Jones, the Green Party candidate for United States Senate, will speak in Rockford at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, at JustGoods, 201 Seventh St. The event is free and open to the public.

In 1993, LeAlan Jones was a 13-year-old reporter for National Public Radio. The documentary he helped produce became one of the most acclaimed pieces of audio work in the history of Public Radio. It detailed the life of two young men growing up in the inner city of Chicago and the obstacles faced to transcend their circumstances. This documentary later formed part of the basis for a book, Our America: Life and Death on the South Side of Chicago.

“This is the only thing I can do to have peace of mind,” is Jones’ response when asked why he is running for office. “I am looking at a community that is suffering because of a lack of genuine concern from their leaders. This isn’t about money or prestige. This isn’t about who gets to stand behind the political elite at a press conference. This is about who is going to stand behind the people.”
