RAMI opens nominations, releases 2009-10 schedule

Rockford Area Music Industry Award (RAMI) nominations are now open. Criteria for Lifetime Achievement, Community Service, Outstanding Achievement and the category of D.J. are released. Dates for the 2010 RAMI Youth Charity Jam, 12th Annual Spring Benefit and the 19th Annual RAMI Awards Ceremony have also been announced (see “Mark your calendars” at the end of this article).
Nominations for all categories, including the technicians’ categories, are now open. A band member/performer must submit a nomination form by downloading the form and mailing it to RAMI, P.O. Box 4128, Rockford, IL 61110, or submissions can be done online at www.ramiawards.com. A band/performer must have performed live within a 50-mile radius of Rockford at least four times during 2009. If a band/performer disbands prior to the end of 2009, but meets all criteria, a nomination form can be submitted. Deadline for submissions is Dec. 1.
If this is your first time as a performer/band, you must submit your nomination in the New Act Category. (This excludes the technician awards, Musical Outreach Organization, Choral Group, Classical Ensemble and Classical Instrumentalist categories).
Voting will begin Jan. 1, 2010, and end March 20, 2010. Only members of the RAMI Musicians Organization can nominate and vote in the technicians’ categories and must have a membership number to do so.

Recordings for the Song of the Year, Composer of the Year and Album of Year will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2010.

Following are the categories and their respective criteria.
Candidate must live within the greater Rockford region (defined as the area encompassed by a 50-mile radius of Rockford). Candidate must have lived in this area for a minimum of a combined 20 years.
Candidate must be or have been an active performing musician, advocate of live music, music teacher, or technical support person within the greater Rockford region for a combined minimum of 15 years.
Candidate shall have had a positive impact on the musical performance community through these public performances, public accomplishments, personal promotion of live music, and displayed a level of professionalism and performance so as to inspire others.
Candidate must live within the greater Rockford region (defined as the area encompassed by a 50-mile radius of Rockford).
Candidate shall be an individual or organization active in the promotion or performance of live music.
Candidate shall have demonstrated or generated a positive impact on the greater Rockford community by using live music to introduce, educate and entertain segments of the community such as youth, elderly and impoverished, who might otherwise not be afforded exposure to such forms of live music.
Candidate must have lived within the greater Rockford region (defined as the area encompassed by a 50-mile radius of Rockford). Candidate shall have accomplished a national or international level of exposure, brought a national or international level of exposure to focus on the greater Rockford community, or have served the community in such a manner as to bring national or international exposure to the community.
Candidate must live within the greater Rockford region (defined as the area encompassed by a 50-mile radius of Rockford). Candidate must have performed a minimum of four public engagements in the past year. Candidate must perform either solo or as part of a group by incorporating his or her original mixes, samples, loops, beats, scratches, etc. Candidate shall submit a recording of such original works along with a nomination form.
2010 RAMI Youth Charity Jam
The 2010 RAMI Youth Charity Jam will be in April. See below for the application deadline, audition and the 2010 RAMI Youth Charity Jam date. High school students in Winnebago, Ogle, Boone, Rock and Stephenson counties are urged to submit an application form found on the RAMI Web site. At least two-thirds of the members of a band must still be attending high school and be younger than 19.
