I wanted to share this link to Peoria Journal Star [1] coverage of the Environment Illinois report documenting the 9 million pounds of toxic chemicals that polluters dumped into our state’s waterways.
Last week, Environment Illinois published our troubling findings in a report called “Wasting Our Waters.” (You can read the full report here.) [2] Because of the contributions made by Environment Illinois supporters last month, our advocates were able to release our findings to the news media across the state, getting attention in nearly two dozen local outlets in cities and towns from Quincy, [3] on the Mississippi, to Chicago [4]and northwest Indiana [5] on Lake Michigan.
Over the last month, activists like you in Illinois and across the country helped us to gather 15,000 signatures on a petition urging Congress to restore Clean Water Act protections to all of America’s waterways. And on Oct. 15, our senior clean water attorney, John Rumpler, was invited to testify before the House of Representatives’ Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to document how polluters have systematically violated our clean water laws.
In short, with your help, we’re making our voices heard in the halls of Congress — and in hometown newspapers near the representatives whose votes could prove decisive as the House debates legislation that would protect our state’s waters.
