Rockford’s Frame Shoppe played role in local Extreme Makeover, to air at 8 p.m., Nov. 18 on ABC
From press release
The family-operated Frame Shoppe Gallery, at Edgebrook Mall in Rockford, is familiar with unusual requests.
On Sept. 11, manager and daughter Mary Ellen Zanocco-Jansen was more than a little surprised to discover the caller was a local artist who had talked to a representative from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, a television show in its seventh season. As a regular viewer of the show, she did her best to take it all in stride when she learned the show was hoping they could get seven framed items within just one day.
“Customer service is what we are all about,” said Mary Ellen. “After hearing what they had in mind, we got busy rearranging the next few days to accommodate their needs.”
The ABC show needed items to complete the rebuilding of the home of Philip, Joey, Kaila, Jonathon and Michael Stott of Lena, Ill. It was planned to raise their home from the ashes of a fire and do it in just seven days. The Stott family was living in a trailer near the site of the fire of their home on their organic farm.
After the famous good morning wake-up call, “the door knock,” friends, family and even total strangers volunteered to help rebuild the Stott home. Mary Ellen admits a part of the reason The Frame Shoppe Gallery wanted to help was because the situation was close to one their family had endured.
Because the Frame Shoppe has made its name by being very detail-oriented in their work, the speed with which they had to produce was a little nerve-racking.
“But, as families do all the time, we pulled together to make it happen,” said Mary Ellen.
The Frame Shoppe opened its first location in 1971.
It is certain the entire staff will be excited to watch the Stott family episode of the award-winning reality program to air from 8 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, on ABC. That is when all will see the items they framed in the hopes the Stott’s house would be complete, right down to the things that make a “house a home.”
The Emmy Award-winning reality program Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It is executive-produced by Anthony Dominici. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America. The show airs Sundays from 8 to 9 p.m.
