Winnebago County Board member Paul Gorski is asking residents of southern Winnebago County to report the dates, times and locations that they smell “bad air.”
“I have received numerous complaints about foul odors in the air from residents in District Five, which includes the areas just outside two landfills. Some residents are reporting that the odors are so strong that even with their windows closed, the odors are permeating their homes. Most residents are reporting the odors smell like garbage, sewer gas, or rotten eggs. The residents I’ve spoken with feel the odors are coming from the landfills, but this has not been confirmed yet. There may be other causes for the odors. I am asking residents to keep a log of the dates and times they smell the odors, and I will forward their lists to local EPA representatives. The EPA will match this information against prevailing wind information for those dates an times to help identify the source of the odors.”
