Emily Bear to perform at Mendelssohn event
From press release
Rockford’s own piano prodigy, 8-year-old Emily Bear, will present a short concert on the Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center’s Steinway grand piano at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19. Her performance will be followed by a screening of the independent film Note By Note: The Making of Steinway L1037.
According to her Web site, www.emilybear.com: “Emily was asked by Steinway and Sons to perform a solo concert at the Chicago film premiere of…Note by Note: the Making of Steinway L1037. She performed the concert on the actual piano built in the movie.”
Note by Note follows the creation of a Steinway concert grand piano from forest floor to concert hall. The award-winning documentary explores the relationship between musician and instrument, chronicles the manufacturing process, and illustrates what makes each Steinway unique in this age of mass production.
Admission is $15 per person. Seating is limited. Call (815) 964-9713 for reservations or for more information.
Emily Bear received a 2008 ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Morton Gould Young Composer Competition Award for her original song, “Northern Lights.” She was one of nine winners in the “Under 18” category out of a field of almost 600.
March 24, 2008, Bear performed a 30-minute solo at the White House for President and Mrs. George W. Bush and 400 guests at the Easter Egg Roll Breakfast. She’s also made four appearances on The Ellen Degeneres Show, composing an original song for each appearance.
Her most recent CD collection of original songs, Always True, was released Oct. 15. In July 2007, Bear recorded her first CD, Five Years Wise, a mixture of jazz standards and original songs. A second CD, The Love In Us, featuring 10 original songs, was released in April 2008. A third CD, Once Upon a Wish, was released in December 2008.
