Food Bank provides hope with Holiday Meal Boxes
For the 10th consecutive year, Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) is conducting a Holiday Meal Box (HMB) campaign. With one weekend left to go, NIFB is nearing its goal of feeding 28,800 families with nearly 24,000 boxes assembled. Each Saturday since Halloween, groups of up to 180 people have been packing HMBs in St. Charles, Ill., at NIFB’s headquarters. Saturday, Nov. 14, more than 65 volunteers (pictured) turned out to the Rockford branch to help pack 2,500 boxes. Each box contains enough food to feed a family of eight and includes a 12- to 14-pound turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, mixed vegetables, dessert and coffee. About half the volunteers Nov. 14 were from Exelon, which also donated $25,000 to NIFB. Visit northernilfoodbank.org, or call (630) 443-6910, ext. 129, to volunteer.
