J.R. Sullivan’s Hometown Holiday to take hiatus in 2009

J.R. Sullivan’s new position as the artistic director of the Pearl Theatre Company will be keeping him busy in New York City this December. As a result, the annual Hometown Holiday show that Sullivan has presented in association with Charlotte’s Web for the Performing Arts for 15 consecutive Decembers will not be scheduled for 2009.
While I am very happy with my new opportunities in New York with the Pearl,
said Sullivan,
I am not at all happy that this year’s Hometown show will not be possible for me because of the new job. I can only say that I know this to be a one-year break, and that the Hometown Holiday show will be back in 2010.
Sullivan’s show, which originated at Memorial Hall in 1994, grew in popularity over the years and eventually moved to great acclaim in 2007 to the theater Sullivan himself opened as the New American Theater in the mid-1980s. The Hometown show grew to include musical guests such as Randy Sabien, Megan McDonough, Shawn Wallace and Holland Zander, as well as former acting company associates from his New American Theater, Linda Abronski and Stephen F. Vrtol. According to Sullivan and Lani Richardson, executive director of Charlotte’s Web, it is their plan to return the show to the 118 N. Main Street theater in December 2010.
It has been a fantastic run for Hometown over 15 wonderful holiday seasons,
said Sullivan.
I happily anticipate the beginning of a new run in 2010. There is no place like home at the holiday season.
At the Pearl Theatre, performing at the New York City Center Stage II on West 55th Street, Sullivan has staged a revival of J. M. Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World and will enter rehearsals for Hard Times, an adaptation of the novel by Charles Dickens, in December.
