Pieta Brown, Annie & Rod Capps, Ernie Hendrickson & Miles Nielsen perform for Web

From press releases

Charlotte’s Web has two shows at different venues this weekend. You’re invited to two CD release parties/concert events—check out these artists! Then, Wednesday, Nov. 25, Ernie Hendrickson and Miles Nielsen present a special Thanksgiving concert.

Pieta Brown

First on the schedule is Pieta Brown, 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, at Bar 3, 326 E. State St. Since the sublime Remember The Sun (One Little Indian Records), Brown continues to ride the upward arc begun with her eponymous debut in 2002 and extended by 2005’s critically-acclaimed In the Cool. Remember the Sun landed at 2 on music critic Michael Ross’ list for the Village Voice’s 35th Annual Critic’s Poll, and The Wall Street Journal included it in their list of the best of 2007.

This enigmatic Midwesterner has also recently released a new EP, titled Flight Time, which seemingly arrived out of the blue and has already landed on critics’ lists as well (No Depression Individual Critic’s Picks of 2008). Touring with Pieta is Bo Ramsey, whose distinctive, inimitable guitar sounds have graced the recorded works of numerous artists, including extraordinary Nashville singer/songwriter Kate Campbell, folk god Pete Seeger, alt-folkie Ani DiFranco, country-roots queen Iris Dement, and he produced the newest CD of Rockford’s own Ernie Hendrickson. The demand for Ramsey’s unmistakable imprint on other artists’ work has tended to keep his own work on the back burner, but Bo’s a fine, evocative and passionate writer in his own right and a commanding singer and performer. See Pieta and Bo for their one-night-only Rockford engagement Nov. 20.

Tickets are $10 advance, $15 at the door.

Annie and Rod Capps

Celebrating their new CD, My Blue Garden, which folk DJs made the No. 2 album in August, Annie and Rod Capps will perform at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at JustGoods Listening Room, 201 Seventh St., Rockford.
My Blue Garden

was the No. 1 song, and
Serenity Road

was the No. 3 song.
Like a newborn baby, this one is definitely our little bundle of joy,

say the artists. It was co-produced by the most amazing, Glenn Brown and features some
knock yer socks off

players (including Jason Dennie, who joins them for this show).

With a rootsy vibe, a touch of twang, and a soulful groove, Annie and Rod Capps are a genre-bending singer/songwriter duo. Genuine, effortless and endearing, they’ve been enchanting audiences in quality music venues, house concerts, coffeehouses and festivals throughout the Midwest and beyond, they are one of Michigan’s top-performing artistic acts. They’re proud to announce the release of their sixth recording, My Blue Garden, a collection of poignant, thought-provoking portraits, backed up by a top-shelf ensemble of some of the finest Michigan artists. In the first month of its release, it became the No. 2 album on the Folk Radio charts, and the title track was the No. 1 song.

Jason Dennie of Redford, Mich., will be joining Annie and Rod on stage, adding both mandolin and harmony vocal to their set. While best known for his solo fingerstyle guitar work, Jason of late has been singing up a storm, letting his sweet bluegrass-influenced tenor voice be heard on both traditional songs and his own original compositions.

Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Ernie Hendrickson and Miles Nielsen

The Second Annual Thanksgiving Show is also a Rockford CD release party for Ernie Hendrickson’s Walking With Angels. Produced by Bo Ramsey, Ernie’s newest release
… proves Hendrickson is a serious player and isn’t going away anytime soon. Each track is organic, lively and moves through the intricate, yet simple wanderings of life, loneliness and love.
