Please continue to do investigative reporting on the current leaders of our school district. It is time for us to unite and make them aware of our presence. Recently, I was told by a colleague to Google; LaVonne Sheffield and misuse of school funds. Is this the same LaVonne Sheffield? If so, how do you get hired to lead a school district when you misused school funds in Michigan on gifts, flowers, hotels, and extravagant meals? If this is our new superintendent, please continue to investigate this entire matter. We need to take back our schools and put ethical leaders in place that will use school funds to educate our students. There are too many administrators downtown that refuse to answer tough questions and be accountable for the violence in our schools. Again, we as a community need the Rock River Times to continue to dig into the truth since no other media outlet will do so.

Thank you, Brandon Reid, for your insightful editorial shedding light on School District 205's long-standing violence and coverup. Like me, you may wonder how, so often in Rockford, sacks of crap finagle their way into power positions, then lie, cheat, and steal to their black hearts' content! I say to hell with Sheffield, Hernandez and Bonne! I urge the good teachers and good students to stop being gutless wonders and blow the whistle on this lunacy! Mr. Reid, thank you for your practical suggestions of how to make District 205 better for our kids, who indeed are our future. We should all dare to make schools once again a place for learning, social interaction, and after-school activities.

Excellent (A+) coverage on our pathetic Rockford educational system. It’s amazing how so-called experts with doctrines in education can be so inept and for so long. Over 20 years the Rockford School System has been broken from the administrators, school board members, and to most of the teachers. It’s about lying, cheating, and covering one’s own rear end. You hear that there are more good teachers then bad, if true, why don’t the good one’s revolt in numbers and get the system right. Noooo, their afraid they might lose their cushy job, lose their pensions, “IT’S FOR THE KIDS” tax increases for more money. Shame on the whole system from the top to bottom! Everyone inside can see what’s going on, but NO ONE nor NOTHING is being said to change it. The worst thing about it is everyone knows about it from the so-called mayor, so-called alderman, and the people we keep electing that are in charge. It is an on going trend in Rockford of poorly run organizations like the government, boys and girls club, and the school system to lye, cheat, steal, and cover one’s own rear end to skate through life, get paid more then deserved, and it’s just excepted. The one’s in charge will bully, lye and do what ever it takes to discredit the one’s that challenge them, but the truth always comes out and wins. All the “GREAT” leaders went out on a limb and challenged their opposition because they knew what was right and stood up for those rights. This article can be a start because it’s the truth and the truth hurts! We will NOT see this type of coverage on our so-called local TV news or in the so-called Star and that’s why Rockford is, what it is.
WHERE ARE THE REAL ROCKFORD LEADERS? WE NEED CHANGE, AND NOW!

I applaud the editorial criticizing the behavior of Rockford Public School officials regarding the violence and behavior problems that have been occurring. Denials and cover-ups are not solutions to the problem.
I take issue, however, with the broad assertions that the entire public school system in Rockford is a disaster. On the contrary, there are many success stories taking place every day all over the district. Many students are very capable and want to achieve big things in life. Unfortunately, there are a few bad apples and the new administration is willing to coddle this element in an attempt to manipulate certain statistics (i.e. fewer discipline referrals, fewer days of school missed due to suspension, etc.)
If teachers and building administrators are not given the tools and support they need to deal with the problem students, then this situation is going to continue to worsen. Students who want to learn are being shortchanged and it's unfair to the taxpayers as well.

Bless you! Your reporting was absolutely correct. Please print this in the Rockford Paper and let all the TV stations know. This lady needs to be exposed before any of our children get hurt. Parents need to know the truth and then we all need to contact the board members and get them to fire her. Please don't stop reporting what is really happening out there. This is also going on at the middle school level as well as the high school level.

I applaud your reporting!!! Finally, someone is speaking out about the true situation in our schools. Dr. Sheffield is only interesting in distorting statistics for her own benefit while our students are suffering. Maybe RRStar needs to learn a thing or two from your reporters!

THANK YOU, Thank you, thank you for your honest reporting. Someone is going to be seriously hurt. Teachers are afraid for their safety. Both teachers and principals are threatened w/their jobs if they publicly speak against policy. Are you aware of guns in RESA recently or the issues at West? I wrote school board members weeks ago and they denied everything I said as false lies. Really? One member said he would know about the incidents if they really happened. Not that I have EVER seen him in my building. Well there are referrals written by teachers, so ask, who sees these after the principal gets them? Sheffield has warned about writing referrals to make the distrct look good. More students in school = more state money. Keep reporting the truth and as you know Mark Bonne is a LIAR.
