PECATONICA, Ill.—Pec Playhouse Theatre will hold auditions for its next production, Woody Allen’s Don’t Drink the Water, at the theater Dec. 8 and 9, with callbacks, if needed, Dec. 10, from 7 until 8:30 pm. The theater is at 314 Main St., Pecatonica, Ill. Roles available for seven males and four females, and three additional roles for either male or females.
Don’t Drink the Water is about an American family visiting an unnamed Eastern European country behind the Iron Curtain in the late 1960s. They are pursued by the secret police and flee to the U.S. Embassy for refuge. The ambassador’s bumbling son is running the Embassy while the ambassador is back in the States trying to get his political career off the ground. Also holed up in the Embassy is a priest who sought safety six years ago and has been studying magic in his abundant spare time. He also serves as the narrator.
We are looking for actors and actresses to play the following parts: Father Drobney, priest—Male, 40s to 60s; Ambassador Magee—Male, 50s; Kilroy, right-hand assistant to the ambassador—Male or Female, 30s to 60s; Axel Magee, Ambassador’s son—Male, late 20s; Marion Hollander, wife and mother—Female, 50s; Walter Hollander, New Jersey Caterer—Male, 50s; Susan Hollander, daughter—Female, mid-20s; Krojack, leader of Secret Police—Male or Female, indeterminate age; Burns, aide to the Ambassador—Male or Female, indeterminate age; Chef, food preparer for the Embassy—Male, 40s; Sultan of Bashir—Male, 40s to 60s; Sultan’s First Wife—Female, 20s to 30s; Kasnar, guest at the ball—Male, 40s to 60s; and Countess Bordoni, guest at the ball—Female, 20s to 30s. (Note: Sultan and Kasnar may be played by same actor, as could Sultan’s First Wife and the Countess.)
Read-through will be Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at the theater, and blocking will be done on the 15th, 16th and 17th, if necessary. Rehearsals will then restart Jan. 4, 2010, at 7 p.m. at the theater. Rehearsals will be 7-9:30 p.m., Mondays-Thursdays. Performance dates are Feb. 5-7, 12-14 and 19-21, with curtain times at 8 p.m. for Friday and Saturday shows and 2 p.m. for Sunday performances.
