Guest Column: Reflexology works for body pain
By Karla Fernet
Healthy Balance Reflexology
We all have some type of body pain. Some have more than their share of aches and pains. How could reflexology work to take away the pain in our bodies?
The feet are like a mirror of our bodies. Reflex points on the feet correspond to different parts of our body. Reflexologists can feel where the body has congestion or inflammation in the corresponding body part.
When a congested or tight area is worked out by a reflexologist, the corresponding body part begins to relax. Reflexology promotes balance and normalization of the body naturally by reducing stress.
At the same time, reflexology stimulates circulation and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells. Now, the body can begin to heal itself naturally and much faster than it normally would.
People who suffer with a stiff neck or back are always amazed when they stand up after a reflexology session. They don’t understand how the stiffness can be removed from their neck and back by having their feet worked on.
Reflexology reaches all parts of the body through more than 7,000 nerve endings in both feet. Many people can feel what part of the body the reflexologist is working on. If I am working on the shoulder region of a foot, someone may ask me if I am working on their shoulder. They know where I am working because they start to feel a warm tingling feeling in the area being worked.
Many people who have severe body pain and numbness often have no color to their feet. Their feet look very pale. In numerous cases, after only one reflexology session, blood starts to circulate more efficiently, and color starts to appear.
A client recently told me a couple hours after his first session his white feet started getting a lot of red color. That red color soon turned to a nice color of pink. His pain and neuropathy was gone, and he felt great. His feet have continued to have a nice color to them, and the pain has been greatly reduced. He has now experienced having more energy and a desire to get out and be more active again.
We have many clients who have suffered for many years with extreme body pain. We are so happy when people start to feel better very soon. We have clients who come for a session after major dental work and report that their pain goes away with reflexology. One recent client said after his dental work, he was at a level 8 of pain, even with his pain pills. He came in for reflexology within a couple hours. His pain pills had now worn off, but his pain immediately went down to a level 2 after I started the session. It doesn’t seem to matter if the pain is in the teeth, back, neck, hips, knees or feet. Reflexology is a wonderful natural therapy that can help the pain.
We are now teaching beginner reflexology for hands. The classes are Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. You can sign up for one, or a series of different classes. Many health issues will be taught, including sinus, body pain, and diabetes and neuropathy. Our Web site has more information. Call Healthy Balance Reflexology at (815) 519-4977 to sign up.
