Conservatory construction continues

The Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners approved a change order totaling $293,382 to Ringland Johnson Construction Company (RJCC) for the purpose of engaging a greenhouse contractor, Rough Bros (RB), to design, fabricate, and provide supervision services and general requirements for greenhouse construction of the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens project.
This order will be funded through change order contingency funds.
The approximate $9.1 million conservatory project, which is being funded through private donations and grants, is expected to be completed in late spring 2011. In March, the Rockford Park District Foundation announced the Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens Public Campaign Project had met its $9.1 million Phase I goal, capping a five-year fund-raising effort. The official groundbreaking was Aug. 4. Approximately 1,082 donors have contributed to the campaign to date, and upon its completion, the Nicholas Conservatory will be the third-largest in Illinois.
“Although the weather has set us back a bit, and now that we have our greenhouse vendor in place, we can move forward on construction with a scheduled completion date of late spring 2011,” said Deputy Director of Capital Planning & Asset Management Laura Pigatti Williamson.
