6 students arrested at West Middle School

Six female West Middle School students were arrested today, Dec. 15, for their alleged roles in a cafeteria fight. The students were charged with disorderly conduct. One student was also charged with resisting arrest, according to police reports.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The arrests mark the fifth incident involving violence in Rockford School District 205 schools–the second at West, within the last month. Four students were arrested in November for allegedly taking part in a series of false fire alarms and a lunchroom fight at East High.
An armed robbery involving a knife at Guilford High School resulted in six arrests, while a teacher was allegedly assaulted at West after attempting to break up a fight Thursday, Dec. 3.
Last Friday, Dec. 11, two male students were arrested for being in possession of loaded handguns at the main and Freshman campuses of Auburn High School. One student was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Attempts to speak with officials in District 205 Superintendent Dr. LaVonne M. Sheffield’s office were unsuccessful.
Sheffield is scheduled to appear on radio host Ken DeCoster’s WNTA program this Thursday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. The superintendent is also scheduled to address media Thursday afternoon regarding District 205 communication issues.
