University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program seeks applicants

University of Illinois Extension-Winnebago County is currently accepting applications for the 2010 Master Gardener Training Course. Individuals with an interest in learning more about horticulture and sharing that knowledge with others are encouraged to apply.
Master Gardeners are an integral part of the education outreach initiatives of the Extension office. The Master Gardener mission is helping others learn to grow. After completing the training, Master Gardeners are expected to use their knowledge and experience to educate county residents on research-based gardening and horticultural practices.
U of I Extension educators provide the training for Master Gardeners. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Jan. 14 through April 1, and will be held at the University of Illinois Extension-Boone County office in Belvidere. Horticulture training topics include vegetable gardening, trees and small fruits, pest management, turfgrass care, flower gardening, plant diseases, soils and more.
An application and interview are required, and the deadline to apply is Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. The cost to attend is $225. For more information or to request an application, contact U of I Extension-Winnebago County at (815) 986-4357 or register online at http://winnebago.extension.uiuc.edu.
