Sheffield cancels WNTA appearance and media roundtable
From staff reports
Rockford Public School District 205 Executive Director of Schools Earl Hernandez, School Board President David Kelley and District 205 Chief Communications Officer Mark Bonne appeared as guests on 1330 WNTA today, Thursday, Dec. 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. The school officials were live on the air with host Ken DeCoster.
Superintendent Dr. LaVonne Sheffield had been scheduled for about a month to appear on the program. DeCoster said her appearance was confirmed as recently as yesterday, Wednesday, Dec. 16.
Kelley said Sheffield was unavailable to appear on WNTA because she was dealing with an emergency personal matter. Neither Kelley nor Bonne could offer more details about where Sheffield was or when she would return.
Members of the media were scheduled to meet with Sheffield at 2 p.m. today to address communication issues. The media roundtable has been re-scheduled for Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at the Rockford Register Star News Tower.
The media roundtable is being coordinated by Register Star Executive Editor Linda Grist Cunningham. Other media outlets scheduled to attend the meeting include TV stations WTVO, WIFR and WREX.

Of course she cancels, she doens’t want to face the facts. Kelley backing her and saying it’s the teachers union is wrong. I am not a teacher or student but just a resident that has common sense.
She is not what this city needs. Parents need to take responslibitiy. She has Broad Foundatins Connections as she is a graduate of the Broad Institute. Go do a search on their, their goal is overtake all schools in districts over in areas where there are over 50K residents. That why they can educate their way, that way is makeing no on responsbible for their actions.
Call her out and kick her out, she has had 18 jobs in 36 years, duh wake up. Look at her history. Lavonne McClain Sheffield try looking up her past clevescene.com, mayorial connections etc.
Wake up Rockford… The kids are smarter then the school board…

FILE (Fox 8 News) BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – The superintendent of the Recovery
School District misused his state-owned vehicle, driving it on
personal trips that included dozens of visits to family in Illinois
and along the Gulf Coast, according to an audit released Monday.
Paul Vallas also used public funds for gasoline on personal
trips, and the state paid the insurance claim for an accident that
Vallas had while driving the state-owned Dodge Durango in Illinois,
said the report released by Legislative Auditor Steve Theriot.
State administrative code prohibits the use of a state vehicle
for personal use.
From Vallas’ hiring in July 2007 through April 2009, the RSD
superintendent drove out of Louisiana 41 times in his state-owned
sport utility vehicle, and Vallas told auditors that 31 of those
trips weren’t work-related, according to the review.
Vallas said he was told by Louisiana Superintendent of Education
Paul Pastorek that he could use the car for nonbusiness travel, and
Pastorek told auditors he wasn’t aware of the legal prohibition.
