Early voting for Winnebago County residents
From press release
Winnebago County Clerk Margie Mullins announces that the County Clerk’s Office will have extended hours for early voting by Winnebago County (not city) residents. This is for the Feb. 2 primary election to elect a governor, county clerk, sheriff, some county board members, senator and representatives. The office at 404 Elm St. in Rockford will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturdays, Jan. 9, 16 and 23. Early voting is open until Thursday, Jan. 28.
Starting Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, grace period voting will begin. If a citizen misses the deadline for registering (Tuesday, Jan. 5), they can come to the County Clerk’s Office and register, but they will have to vote at that time. They are not able to go to the polls on Election Day to cast their ballot. Grace period voting is open until Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Because o f the possibility of severe weather in February, Clerk Mullins encourages voters to vote absentee vote from the warmth and comfort of their homes. With the change in the law, a voter doesn’t have to give a reason to absentee vote.
Call the County Clerk’s Office at (815) 319-4252 to request your absentee ballot.
