Rockford La Voz Latina presents film about human trafficking Jan. 11

People across Illinois will be recognizing National Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Chicago, Springfield and Rockford with films and panel discussions to help raise awareness about the growth of human trafficking worldwide and in Illinois.
Illinois Rescue and Restore, a coalition with headquarters at the Illinois Department of Human Services, is encouraging the residents of Illinois to become more educated about the spread of human trafficking, which involves not only people brought from other countries, but also youth from our own country and state. The lead agency for Illinois Rescue and Restore in northwestern Illinois is La Voz Latina, a Latino community center and advocacy organization, which will be hosting free educational sessions about the topic for social service, medical and law enforcement providers in an eight-county area in 2010.
To mark National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, La Voz Latina invites the public to their facility at 412 Market St., Rockford, at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11, to view a film titled Trade (not suitable for children younger than 17 years of age). The facilitator, Leo Prieto, has received extensive training from Illinois Rescue and Restore and the International Organization for Adolescents, and will be available to answer any questions or concerns regarding Human Trafficking in our state and cities.
