Special Olympics Illinois needs volunteers for Winter Games

NORMAL, Ill.—More than 400 athletes from across the state will be in Galena, Ill., and Dubuque, Iowa, to compete in the annual Special Olympics Illinois Winter Games Feb. 2-4.
The state Winter Games, held at Chestnut Mountain and Five Flags Center, could not happen without the assistance of about 350 volunteers.
Special Olympics Illinois is still looking for volunteers to help at this year’s Winter Games. Volunteers are needed to work in a variety of shifts Feb. 2-4, with a particular need in the afternoon all three days. Volunteers are needed at any of the five sports venues (snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, figure skating and speed skating) as escorts, results runners, hospitality servers or at awards ceremonies.
Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and must bring a photo ID with them to volunteer. Acceptable ID forms include a driver’s license, military or state ID, firearms ID card or school ID.

In return for their time, volunteers will receive a Special Olympics Illinois commemorative scarf. More importantly, they will take part in an inspiring event and help celebrate the accomplishments of others.
