By Gale Ketteler

Last fall at Womanspace, we started a wonderful series of programs for girls ages 9-13 and inaugurated it with our new Junior Membership. These girls get a cool sling bag, a journal, a membership card and badge, two tickets to a popcorn and movie night, and three free Bookgirl discussions, plus other perks. They also get 10 percent off other programs and a coupon for $10 off an adult membership. Now, we’re adding some more fun programs, starting with Spagirlz this Friday (Jan. 15), pampering girls with foot massage and skin care. Then, Yogagirlz starts Jan. 19 for girls and their moms! Express Your Self! self-esteem and expression through art Jan. 28, and Hulagirlz begins Feb. 4. Makes you wish you were a kid again, eh? They also get their own e-news: Memo4Girls. Visit www.womanspace-rockford.org and click on “Programs” and then “For Kids” to see the lineup. You may also subscribe to our e-news and learn more about both Junior and Adult memberships right on the Web site.
Womansong Chorale is directed by Roberta Flaherty and begins rehearsals Jan. 14. The whole family can join in the fun Jan. 22 when we host our first Family Fun Night. Bring your favorite games, some food or drink to share, and maybe you’ll meet a new best friend!
“The Journey” is an art exhibit inspired by Mary Oliver’s poem opening in Gallery 1 this Friday with a free reception from 5:30-8:30 p.m. We also have many new art classes starting Jan. 18. Handbuilt pottery is Monday evening and Beginning Wheel Thrown Pottery is Wednesday nights. Acrylic Painting meets Tuesday mornings, Sculpture: Image and Imagination Thursday nights, and there’s a Saturday morning Watercolor Plus artshop Jan. 23. Have fun Creating Modern Vintage Jewelry Feb. 6 or unique Leaf Bowl Pottery with Cindy Linnabary starting Feb. 8.
De-Stress: Nutritional and Energetic Ways to Relieve Stress will be presented by Dr. Ruth Ora Jackson Jan. 16. A two-part video of Joan Chittister, Scarred by Struggle-Transformed by Hope, will be shared Jan. 19 and 26, with discussions led by Dr. Lenora T. Maier and Dorothy Bock. Milk is this month’s Supper and Film selection Jan. 25, and our copy of the DVD has journeyed to the steps of City Hall in San Francisco, the site of Harvey Milk’s assassination. Then, Jan. 31, our Queen of Heaven group meets to watch Part 3 of the Women and Spirituality, Full Circle. All women interested in exploring feminine theology are invited to join us.
OutReach for the Arts is Feb. 26 with a fun theme of Carnivale des Beaux-Arts. Tickets for six major works of art are on sale for $10 each or eight for $50. Stop by our campus to see these amazing masterpieces by Dorothy Bock, Cynthia Linnabary, John Verl McNamara, Sue Mount and Philip Soosloff. Then, get your tickets for the evening fund-raiser and help support art scholarships for area youth.
