Park District Board reviews Foundation’s strategic plan
From press release
At the Jan. 12 Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners meeting, commissioners reviewed and confirmed priorities for the Rockford Park District Foundation’s strategic plan. The mission of the Rockford Park District Foundation is to assist the district by securing philanthropic support on its behalf, and to enhance awareness of the district’s benefit to the community.
Several highlights of the foundation’s 2009 activities and results included the following:
• Completing private fund-raising for Phase I of Nicholas Conservatory—$9.1 million, with many donors contributing at various levels;
• A home at 903 E. Riverside Blvd. was purchased by the foundation and demolished to add land and visibility to the Field of Honor; and
• Community volunteer Tim Larson raised $39,500 to refurbish the barn at Aldeen Golf Club.
“It had been a year since the foundation worked through the strategic planning process, and since that time, our board has revised the Park District’s Priority Results,” said Rockford Park District Board President Doug Brooks. “The foundation’s strategic planning document contains some carryover from 2009 plus new ideas for the Foundation Board’s consideration.”
Some of these planning efforts for consideration include raising funds for specialty parks, capital projects, facilities and raising funds to support programs for older adults, youth sports, environmental education, arts, at-risk youth, facilities and special needs populations.
The Foundation Board will review the plan and prioritize their 2010 focus at the foundation’s Jan. 25 board meeting.
