Commencing Sunday, Jan. 10, the front desk Crime Reporting Unit (CRU) will be staffed seven days a week with the following hours. Staffing with a Rockford Police officer will be Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Civilian CRU personnel will staff the front desk Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Public Safety Building (PSB) will open at 7 a.m. daily and will close at 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday; however, citizens can communicate with the second-floor Shift Commander via camera and intercom system. The Shift Commander will manage each need as appropriate.

Witnesses or victims of a crime who need to speak to an officer or detective will be met at the desk and escorted to the needed office. For a major case incident, when a detective is waiting for citizens to come to the PSB, the Shift Commander will assign an officer at the south entrance of the lobby to wait their arrival and let them in the building. The citizens will be escorted to the Investigative Bureau and back out at the end of any meeting.

From 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. each evening, all vehicle repossessions and private property tows will be taken by Report Review at (815) 987-5846, who will then enter them into the Records Management System.

When the Emergency Accident Plan is implemented, accident victims will be informed of such and instructed that they must come to the PSB between 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday to make a report.

The Rockford Police Department is a warming and cooling center. In cases of extreme weather conditions, citizens seeking shelter from the cold or heat will be allowed to remain in the building each day of the week from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. After 4 p.m., citizens will be directed, either by the CRU employee or the Shift Commander, to one of the other centers listed below.

Women’s Crisis Center, 809 Cedar St., (815) 986-0393—Women and children only, warming, seven days a week, 8 a.m.—5 p.m.

Shelter Care Ministries, Jubilee Center, Rockford, 413 N. Court St., (815) 964-5520—Lobby: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m., Saturday soup kitchen: noon-1 p.m.

Carpenter’s Place, 1149 Railroad Ave., Rockford, (815) 964-4105—Monday-Friday, 8:15 a.m.-3 p.m.

Salvation Army-Rockford, 1706 18th Ave., (815) 397-0440—Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. One room available. If families with minors, signed release is needed.
