A meeting to discuss how to curb violence in schools is scheduled for 6 p.m., tonight, Thursday, Jan. 14, at Third Presbyterian Church 1221 Custer (North Main and Custer, across from Brown Park).
Joan Wardzala of Voices of Rockford explained: “We need the participation of everyone who is concerned. This is a collaborative meeting, and no one will have a ‘bad’ idea. I will compile all the ideas, separate them into categories of what can be done now, in the near future and in the long term. They will be presented to all the officials and the school board.
“We also have to work on changing the mindset of the superintendent, the board, the police and the aldermen,” Wardzala added. “The superintendent, at Chuck Jefferson’s education advisory meeting, told me she does not believe there is violence in the schools and she does not believe the children when they say it exists.”
