Goodwill can help you get the refund you deserve this year

Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is expanding. Join them as they embark on a new endeavor, making tax season easy and affordable for those who qualify, with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site.
More than half of all taxpayers pay a tax preparer to file their tax return. For many in the Rockford area, this is an expense that they cannot afford. Before using a commercial tax preparer, find out if you qualify to receive free tax preparation at Goodwill’s VITA Site and get the full refund that you deserve. If your family income is less than $50,000 and your individual less than $25,000, Goodwill can help you.
The Goodwill VITA Site offers free assistance to those with low-to-moderate incomes, including persons with disabilities. The Volunteer Tax Assistors also assist community members in claiming any special credits and deductions for which they may be eligible.
People visiting the Volunteer Tax Site should bring a valid picture idea, a copy of last year’s tax return, Social Security cards, wage and earnings statements from banks (Form 1099) and a blank check for direct deposit.
Assistance with basic income tax returns will be available throughout the tax season, starting on Jan. 30 to April 14, at Goodwill, 1907 Kishwaukee St., Rockford.
The site will be open Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Help will be provided by trained and certified members of the community who are dedicated to giving their times to others by being Volunteer Tax Assistors.
