Rock & Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood and Marrow Drive Jan. 23 at Rockford College
From press release
State Rep. Chuck Jefferson (D-Rockford) will recognize National Blood Donor Month by supporting the 10th annual Rock & Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood and Marrow Drive with the Rock River Valley Blood Center, 104.9 WXRX, Rockford College and Texas Roadhouse. The event will be from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, in Rockford College’s Burpee Center, 5050 E. State St. Jefferson plans to stop by the event at noon.
“Those who donate blood do not often get the recognition they deserve for saving lives,” Jefferson said. “So, I want to personally attend to thank them for being heroes.”
In August, Jefferson met with the blood center’s administration, nurses and other lawmakers in preparation for National Blood Collectors Week. Jefferson plans to continue his mission of supporting evens that benefit the community by attending the 10th annual Rock & Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood and Marrow Drive, which will offer prizes, food and giveaways for those who donate that day. The first 104 donors will also receive a special edition souvenir T-shirt.
Jen Bowman, Rock River Valley Blood Center public relations manager, said: “We established this event a decade ago, in partnership with several other organizations, in hopes of generating new donors and increasing public awareness of the necessity of blood and marrow donations. Although our advertising budgets are a little lower this year due to the national economic downturn, I hope that the message will still get out and allow us to reach our goal of registering 200 donors.”
The Rock River Valley Blood Center serves as a centralized, community blood center and is the only provider of blood products and services to Beloit Memorial Hospital, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services, Freeport Health Network, Mercy Harvard Hospital, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Rochelle Community Hospital, Rockford Health System, SwedishAmerican Health System and SwedishAmerican Medical Center—Belvidere.
