From press release
The Rockford Noon Lions Club will celebrate its 90th anniversary Feb. 3 at noon at the Machine Shed Restaurant, corner of East State Street and Bell School Road.
Since the club’s chartering in 1920, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as constructing and financing the Sinnissippi band shell, building a handicap-accessible fishing pier, shelter house and Lions Park all at Rock Cut State Park, founding of the Winnebago Center for the Blind, which, in turn, has grown into an organization, the Center for Sight and Hearing, that has offered sight and hearing services to tens of thousands of people across Illinois and beyond, for more than 48 years. They have provided hearing aids and eyeglasses to the children of District 205 as well as hundreds of adults in the Rockford community. The club actively recycles eyeglasses and supports dozens of local and state projects.
According to Ken Kelly, president of the Rockford Noon Lions, “We are proud of our club’s 90 years of service to the community. The Lions Club members thank everyone who contributes to this important work. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community.”
The Rockford Noon Lions Club has 70 members and meets on the first four Wednesdays of the month at noon at the Machine Shed Restaurant, 7475 E. State St. Lions Clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
