38th IHSA girls’ state bowling tourney Feb. 12-13 at Cherry Bowl

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) will hold its 38th Annual Girls’ Bowling State Championships Feb. 12-13 at Cherry Bowl, 7171 Cherryvale Blvd., Rockford. Doors open to the general public at 9:30 a.m. both days, and cost is $10 per day for spectators.
Twenty-four high school teams and 30 individual bowlers, who are not part of a qualifying team, will compete for the title of IHSA state champs. Local high school athletes competing in the tournament include teams from Rockford Jefferson and Rockford Guilford high schools. Individual bowlers, who are not part of a qualifying team, include Sammi Hagerman from Machesney Park Harlem and Denise Schulz from Rockford Auburn.

This is the 18th consecutive year the Rockford area has hosted the state tournament. This year’s tournament is projected to draw approximately 600 competitors, coaches and spectators, bringing in $90,000 for area hotels, businesses and restaurants. This is also a special year for IHSA because it is the last year Sue Hinrichsen, assistant executive director, will be involved, as she is retiring after 18 years with IHSA. She is the 21st person in the history of IHSA to be employed on its administrative staff and its eighth female administrator.
