State Police: 717 citations, 524 written warnings issued in January

PECATONICA, Ill.—State Police District 16 announced that during the month of January, district 16 troopers issued a total of 717 citations and 524 written warnings. Troopers also assisted 166 stranded motorists.
Traffic enforcement activities resulted in 284 drivers arrested for speeding and 138 cited for seat belt violations. Driving under the influence arrests totaled 19 with 10 motorists cited for violating Scott’s Law.
During the month, 30 people were apprehended for criminal offenses or outstanding warrants by troopers. Five arrests were made for the unlawful consumption of alcohol. Troopers inspected 70 commercial vehicles for compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Of the commercial vehicles inspected, 18 were placed out of service for driver or vehicle violations.
District 16 Troopers investigated 34 traffic crashes within the four-county area of Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson and Jo Daviess. Of these crashes, five involved deer and six resulted in injury.
