Free pancakes today at IHOP

Tuesday, Feb. 16, Fat Tuesday could come with a literal meaning, one that has nothing to do with Mardi Gras but all things near the waistline.
It’s National Pancake Day. Today, America celebrates what is as down-home as baseball, Chevrolet, apple pie, country music… something like that.
Scores of restaurants are celebrating the pancake. Two eatery chains are so happy, they are literally giving them away.
According IHOP representatives, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., customers can get a short stack of buttermilk pancakes. Only one? Don’t worry, IHOP has never been chintzy. One short stack is three fluffy Frisbee-size cakes with as much butter, syrup and fruit toppings as the heart desires.
The catch? Calling it a “catch,” isn’t exactly warranted. IHOP is asking pancakers to donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. Reps hope to top last year’s donation mark of $1.3 million. A minimum donation is not required.
Several New York Perkins restaurants are also participating in a similar National Pancake Day charity give-away. The chain is giving each customer three cakes in exchange for a donation to Give Kids the World, a charity that helps fight disability and life-threatening illness in children.
