Six students, ages 12-13, at Eisenhower Middle School were arrested Friday, Feb. 19, on possession of cannabis charges, according to Sgt. Mike Spelman of the Rockford Police School Liaison Unit. Two of the students were charged with possession with intent to deliver.
Spelman said the incident is not gang-related and that an arrest of this size is unique. He said only three other individuals have been arrested on possession charges this year at Eisenhower.
Spelman said Eisenhower’s principal had been alerted to the situation and then made sure police were notified. None of the six students arrested was carrying a weapon.
Parents should look for any changes in their child’s behavior, friends, normal routines or personalities as signs of possible drug involvement, Spelman said.
