The Boylan Titans out-dueled a tight field at the IHSA swimming sectionals held at Jefferson High School. The Titans won three events and totaled 250 team points, with Hononegah finishing second with 233.5 and Byron finishing third at 220 points.
But while the Titans took away the team title in the sectional, Bryon came away the big winner, qualifying in six different events for the state championships.
Byron got things kicked off in the 200-yard medley relay, qualifying in first place with a time of 1:38.77. They also qualified in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:30.03.
Seth Holbrook of Byron was also one of three individuals to qualify for multiple individual events. Holbrook qualified in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of :49.54 and also in the 50-yard freestyle at :22.39.
Junior Luke Holbrook of Byron also qualified for the state finals in the 100-yard breastroke, where he finished second with a time of 1:02.14, just behind Nick Harner of Hononegah, who also qualified with his winning time of 1:02.02.
Byron freshman Aaron Helander qualified in the 100-yard butterfly at :53.35. Hononegah had their 400-yard freestyle relay team qualify at 3:18.11.
Auburn senior Ondrej Vicen and Boylan freshman Jack Tribble were the other big winners in the individual events. Both swimmers qualified in two events.
Vicen qualified in the 200-yard and the 500-yard freestyle events, while Tribble also qualified in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Boylan’s Reid Keller also qualified for the diving finals at the event.
